Pre-Kindergarten (Moyenne Section)
American Curriculum (25% of school time)
The Pre-K program emphasizes English language development, socialization, and American culture. The theme-based curriculum nurtures the natural curiosity and enthusiasm of four-year-olds. It builds independence, decision making, creativity, and problem solving. Children form friendships, learn to take turns and cooperate, use their imaginations, and to think creatively. There are many opportunities during each session to increase their vocabulary and develop fine motor and perceptual-motor skills while they interact with others. Their “play” is truly a learning time for cooperation and sharing.
From everyday experiences that lead to discussions and the use of mentor texts which purport happiness, believing in oneself, and being a caring, determined, and responsible child, the various aspects of our character education program are woven into our curriculum daily.
Literary appreciation and alphabet awareness are developed through stories and rhymes, and children borrow books weekly from the classroom library. Art concepts, such as the mixing of colors and the use of line and shape, are present in many of our daily activities. The classroom is equipped with a multi-touch interactive Smartboard, which adds another dimension to the overall learning experience and allows us virtual access to the world around us. American holidays and customs are celebrated with songs, poetry, and games. Our Pre-K is a rich and fun-filled learning experience.
