Why the American Section?

The American Section is a founding member of the Lycée International de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, consistently ranked among France’s top ten schools.

The Lycée International is unique among French schools in being composed entirely of international sections (currently 14) and offering a complete education, from Pre-K to twelfth grade. Our students receive a bilingual and bicultural education that combines the best of what France and America have to offer, within a rich international environment.

Students follow the French national curriculum (in French) taught by French teachers specially selected for their experience and interest in international education. They also receive six to eight hours of instruction (in English) per week in language arts and history by American Section teachers, who are native English speakers from the United States or Canada, and hold North-American university degrees. American culture is imparted at all grade levels in our American curriculum, in seasonal celebrations and social activities, and through extra-curricular activities such as theater, Model United Nations, student council, and yearbook.

Admission to the American Section and the Lycée International is selective, but our ambition is to support and to nurture the potential in our students, providing them with the tools, skills, and knowledge they need to meet the challenges of the 21st century. At the end of their studies all our students take the Baccalauréat Français International (BFI), an entry qualification recognized and esteemed by top universities worldwide, and at any point in their school career our students integrate competitive schools and programs wherever they go.

The American Section prides itself on the dynamic role it plays in the Lycée International. We stress openness, curiosity and compassion, themes that are applied in our academic programs, extracurricular activities, and social events.

Our academic program and community outreach are challenging and ambitious. They require considerable personal investment from both students and their parents, producing students who are bilingual, bicultural, and truly international. We expect active participation on the part of students, parents, faculty and staff in the multitude of programs offered and in fundraising efforts. Giving of our time, talent and treasure is part of our DNA.

We hope you will consider joining us and adding to this unparalleled experience in international education.
