Volunteering

The American Section wouldn’t be the same without the involvement of our entire community. We count on parent volunteers to run social events and provide support for programs that lend essential cultural and social elements to our education.

Our parents regularly volunteer throughout the school year. There are jobs of all sizes, ranging from  baking goodies for a class party, making crafts for the annual Holiday Sale, and chaperoning a dance, to organizing the annual fundraising Gala. Parents also chaperone class outings, coach soccer teams, and assist with library and art classes in Lower School. Every class has a Homeroom Parent to facilitate communication between the administration, teacher, and other families. Parents also share their expertise by helping with special projects and serving on various task forces  or the Board of Trustees.

Community Events

Many student social events are run by our volunteers, including graduation ceremonies in fifth grade, Troisième and Terminale, the Lower and Middle School Halloween parties, Lower School classroom parties, fifth-grade field day, Middle School dances, the Troisième Prom and the Seconde boat dance. Parents assist the faculty and staff with special events such as the Spelling Bee and Bingo Night.

There are also parent-only evenings where we celebrate together our ambitions and achievements as a community. Committees are organized to plan these celebrations.

  • Traditional potluck supper
  • Cocktail party with the entire Lycée staff and faculty
  • Fundraising gala and auction

Finally, parents are involved in organizing three major school-wide events with parents from other sections:

  • Holiday Sale
  • Lycée en Fête (end of school year fair)
  • Tournoi des Etoiles (inter-section soccer tournament)

Volunteer Leadership Committee

Our Volunteer Leadership Committee (VLC) is comprised of the Lower, Middle, and Upper School Head Homeroom Parents, Club International representatives, and representatives from the various event committees (gala committee, cocktail, potluck, student dances...), and is works closely with Section administration. The committee meets regularly to assess volunteer needs and to coordinate event organization.

For more information, our Volunteering Opportunities sheet briefly describes each event and how parents can help throughout the school year. If you are interested in taking on an active volunteering role in the Section, please contact Margaret Jenkins.

Volunteering on the

There are also many opportunities to volunteer on the French side of the school.

Club International: a social organization regrouping parent representatives from each national section

Check into France: organizes the school's welcome program
